Bifurcated Fans

Bifurcated axial fans are direct driven axial fans where the motor is kept out of the airstream. Bifurcated Fans are useful in industrial ventilation applications where the motor is to be kept out of the airstream due to certain temperature or types of gases or fumes. They come in various constructions and sizes 12 inches up till 48 inches diameter.

A bifurcated design splits the casing so the impeller stays in the duct while the motor lives in its own separately ventilated compartment outside it, connected by a through-shaft and sealed bulkhead. The motor never touches the process air. That single change is what lets these fans hold up in tunnels, mines, and process exhaust systems where a conventional fan would burn out its bearings or windings within a couple of years.
