What Is a DWDI Fan

A Double Width Double Inlet (DWDI) fan is a centrifugal fan with

  • Two air inlets (one on each side)
  • Double-width impeller construction
  • Single motor drive for both air inlets

This configuration allows the fan to move significantly higher airflow compared to a comparable single-width single-inlet fan while maintaining compact equipment dimensions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Double Width, Double Inlet- Air enters the impeller from both sides, roughly doubling airflow capacity for a given wheel size versus a single-inlet fan.

DWDI draws air from both sides with a symmetrical casing and dual bearing support. SWSI draws air from one side with an overhung impeller. DWDI moves more air at a similar diameter and speed.

Higher airflow per unit size, lower speed for the same duty, balanced axial thrust, quieter operation, and a compact footprint for large-volume needs.

Belt-driven (adjustable speed via pulleys) or direct-driven (motor coupled to shaft, common with VFDs). Shaft is supported by bearings on both sides.

 HVAC air handling units, power plant draft systems, cooling towers, dust/fume extraction, tunnel and mine ventilation, and boiler draft applications

Backward curved (efficient, non-overloading), forward curved (compact, lower cost, less efficient), and airfoil (highest efficiency, lowest noise).
